January Masterclasses – Make sure you are booked in!

This January 2017 is very busy with events and exciting activities. Our two masterclasses are meant to help you kick start this musical 2017.

Student masterclass
At WKMT we have taken the decision of starting with a series of masterclasses aimed to integrate our student community. It is paramount for our studio to motivate our prospect musicians. They need to meet each other and see how each one of them experiences music.

The first Masterclass is scheduled for January the 20th 2017. It will be delivered at our Grand Piano Room at our Kensington branch and it will be 2 hours long. This lesson will be delivered by our principal, Juan Rezzuto. He will aim to lecture about Vicente Scaramuzza Technique, applied to the pieces presented by six selected students. This will be a great chance to see how all our different teaching approaches integrate.

Every teacher will choose one student above 7 years of age to present as his or her candidate for the January masterclass. The student must present one piece no longer than 5 minutes. The piece will be played and the lecturer will give general advice.

The selection needs to be made before January 10th. Your teacher will need to let us know about name of the student and piece to be presented. Your teacher can choose to come or not.

Once we got the selection we will shortlist 6 students to be present at the masterclass based on their level and affinity of the pieces chosen.

London Masterclass – Sonata Hob. XVIF3

The main objective of this masterclass is to learn how to relate dynamics to harmonic and compositional analysis.

We will discuss about Haydn Sonata Hob. XVIF3. It would be great if you keep an eye on our blog as you will find its full analysis published there in the next two to three days.

We will mainly focus on the exposition. We will analyse themes, episodes and how to approach dynamics in a pianistic way. The key is to learn how to justify our ideas with solid musical interpretations. Accents are a main topic when dealing with this kind of works, therefore we will go deep on how to structure dynamic modifiers using them as pivot points.

We will also apply the Scaramuzza paradigm to the study of this piece.
