A Beginner’s Journey in Keyboard Harmony: Through a series of twelve lessons, students will build a solid foundation of keyboard harmony. Let’s go through the lessons plan:

 

Lesson 1: Introduction to Keyboard Harmony

Introduction to the concept of keyboard harmony and its relevance in music theory. Basic keyboard skills such as finger placement, posture, and basic hand movements. Introduction to the idea of chord progressions and their function in music.

Lesson 2: Major Chords

The students will learn how to build and play major chords on the keyboard. The concept of inversions and how to play them. Used of exercises to reinforce chord progression and inversions.

Lesson 3: Minor Chords

The students will learn how to build and play minor chords on the keyboard. The difference between major and minor chords and their function in chord progressions. Used of exercises to reinforce chord progressions with both major and minor chords.

Lesson 4: Seventh Chords

Introduction to the concept of seventh chords and how they are used in chord progressions. How to build and play dominant seventh and major seventh chords. Used of exercises to reinforce the chord progressions.

Lesson 5: Cadences The concept of cadences and how they function in music

The different types of cadences and their characteristics. Used of exercises to reinforce the identification and use of cadences in chord progressions.

Lesson 6: Modes Introduction to the concept of modes and how they are used in music

The different modes and their characteristics. Used of exercises to reinforce the identification and use of modes in chord progressions.

Lesson 7: Inversions and Arpeggios

Students will learn more advanced inversion techniques. Introduce arpeggios and teach how to play them. Used of exercises to reinforce the use of inversions and arpeggios in chord progressions.

Lesson 8: Secondary Dominants

Introduction to the concept of secondary dominants and their function in chord progressions. How to identify and play secondary dominants. Used of exercises to reinforce the use of secondary dominants in chord progressions.
