On the 14th of April my band The Riven released its first EP ‘Blackbird’ which you can listen on the following links:
Since we have been really careful making sure that everything was right, it has taken us a year to release anything since we started the band. The songs had to be as good as possible, all the parts perfectly clear, we had to find the right engineer and studio and be happy with the mixes (and mastering) and finally there had to be a strong promotion behind it. So far we are getting lots of great critics from many key blogs within the genre and lots of offers to play in and outside the UK as well as to open for some of bigger bands that we admire.
My piece of advice for anyone who is planning on a release is to make sure that everything is at the same level. It doesn’t make any sense to have the best sounding record if you can’t deliver a great sound live. It is worthless to have great songs if the execution of the instrument is not good enough. And finally never underestimate promotion, you can be a great artist, with great songs and musicianship but it doesn’t do any good if nobody knows about you!
