Beginning piano lessons

As an educator, to have a complete beginner in any instrument are both a great opportunity and a great challenge, making the combination an exciting journey for both teacher and student.

Why Great Opportunity?

Because we can imprint our skills and knowledge without having to correct wrong position or technical problems first. This is something that is very common with people that started as self-taught students, commonly from videos on the internet without any guidance whatsoever.

Why Challenging?

Because as teachers is a big responsibility to guide someone from scratch to professional level. Students trust us to guide them and that can feel a burden sometimes, only lifted by the fact that we place ourselves in the amazing experience of imparting and sharing, combined with patience and care.

Taking this into account, I designed an Online Course for absolute beginners to unify the technical aspects and skills we want to be developed in WKMT, studio. I have been teaching for 17 years now and I believe this is the time to crystalize it in an online form.

Why Online?

No books anymore? I do love my music books, but the main features of this course are:

– External links to expand the information about pieces, technique and Music theory.

– Online Video support for exercises, songs and theory topics.

– Easy access to mobiles phones, tablets and iPad.

– No need to carry books anywhere, just log in wherever you are. (This is particularly useful for adult learners who sometimes practice in their working places or University facilities)

– Quizzes every Module to check your progress and downable worksheets.

– You can double-check your progress as you complete the lessons.

This makes the Piano study experience much convenient and practical for our new students.

How the course is designed:

We have three piano levels that comprises all the theory and technical topics to achieve the equivalent as a Grade 1 level. Each Unit has a Repertoire section (selected pieces) and a Milestone, which contains:

– Scales and arpeggios (Technical work)

– Sight-reading exercises (taken from Mikrokosmos book)

– Repertoire (Pieces and songs)

The Levels are divided into Modules. Each module contains:

– A specific topic to develop

– PDF’s for practical exercises and pieces

– Video support to practice at home, especially for the Piano Duets (all have metronomic marks)

– Graphs and explanatory pictures as additional material.

– Progress bar as you complete your lessons

– Downable Worksheets for Written exercises

– A step-by-step guide from Middle C to Grade 1 pieces.

You will be also free to comment and suggest changes to the course making it interactive and flexible in its design, as it will improve with every user experience, as I will take on board any tip you may have regarding the course.

The first Module “Fundamentals of the Piano Technique” of this course can be previewed for free on this link:
