Once again the London City Quartet is back…
This time the ensemble brings us the chance of listening, for the first time ever, three world premieres. Bozo - Catalan composer -, Fender - British composer -, Martinez - Valenzian composer -, all gathered by the London city quartet to produce an evening of surprise.
The London City Quartet has built up its repertoire of contemporary classical pieces thanks to the enthusiasm shown by all its members towards performing new music. String quartets are very sought after by new composers as they are the obliged previous stage before premiering their pieces with orchestra. Unfortunately, ensembles tend to not be so fond of taking on these challenges; mainly due to their lack of understanding about contemporary classical music and extended techniques. The London City Quartet, on the contrary, defines itself as a renderer of new music and its members find the ultimate joy in discovering this new works and being the first ones in imprinting their own artistry to them.
At WKMT we believe our students, in general, and our composition students, in particular, should feel happy and compelled to come and support this unique ensemble. Participating as audience in these events brings the chance to people to not only listen to these world premieres, but also to meet the artists in person. We encourage everyone to stay 5 minutes after the event so they can socialize and meet the London City Quartet!
