The new venue was fantastic, with more space for our performers and even a reception rooms for parents and WKMT music community to socialise while sipping a nice glass of prosecco and nibbles.
After months of hard work and preparation, all the students performed beautifully on a wonderful Steinway in front of a supportive audience and proud teachers.
Performing in front of an audience is very stressful for professional and non-professional musicians, but it is a very rewarding and valuable experience. Some of my students, felt nervous the day before and they made more mistakes than they usually do. I think this is a good sign because it means that they care and they want to give their best to show their parents and friends the fruits of their hard work. As a teacher, I try to encourage my students by saying that the audience is there to support and enjoy a beautiful performance and not to look for someone to make mistakes. We all do mistakes and as a performer, I do as well but it is important to carry on because “the show must go on”.
Very often, I hear from my students: “I get very frustrated because I always do mistakes in front of people”. In my personal experience, I realised that the more I perform in public the more I get better and most important, I do enjoy it more than when I was younger. It is not a news, that even professional Concert Pianists are not completely happy with their performance even if they played exceptionally well.
Performing is an important experience that build up confidence and improve one`s playing skills and I am very grateful to WKMT that offers this opportunity in such special venues and settings with the unique chance for the performers to listen to themselves thanks to the professional recording.
Special thanks to Juan, Gisela and Victor for organising such an impeccable event and all the teachers who have contributed to the success of this Festival.
